In Ontario alone, one in eight people received an opioid for chronic non-cancer pain in 2016.
Developed under the clinical leadership of Dr. Arun Radhakrishnan, Dr. Jose Silveira and Dr. Andrea Furlan, the updated Opioid Manager is designed to support health care providers prescribe and manage opioids for patients with chronic non-cancer pain.
As an update of the original Opioid Manager that the CEP developed in 2011, the new Opioid Manager includes feedback from end users and recommendations from the 2017 Canadian Guideline for Opioids for Chronic Non-Cancer Pain.
The 2017 Opioid Manager is part of the CEP’s suite of pain tools and resources, which include:
- Osteoarthritis Tool
- CORE Neck Tool and Headache Navigator
- Management of Chronic Non-Cancer Pain Tool
- CORE Back Tool
- Primary Care Focus on Low Back Pain Online Course
Also, interested providers can sign up to receive updates about our primary academic detailing service, which will cover chronic non-cancer pain for one of its topics beginning in 2018.
Keep an eye out as we develop more pain tools, resources and services for primary care.
