Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

COPD is a slowly progressive disease that affects more than 2.5 million Canadians, half of whom will not be properly diagnosed until they reach an advanced stage of the disease. Clinicians need easier point-of-care access to evidence-based information to support faster, appropriate diagnoses and improve patient health outcomes.

Benefits of E2P for COPD:

  • Supports diagnosis with spirometry of people clinically suspected of having COPD.
  • Assists in initiating maintenance therapy tailored to specific patient factors.
  • Guides clinical decision to adjust or add additional therapies according to symptom burden, acute exacerbations and lung function.
  • Helps clinicians connect patients to COPD education and self-management strategies.

Development Process

Tools and supports for COPD were co-developed with primary care clinicians, persons with lived experiences, experts and key system stakeholders.
